I was waiting on my mom at the hospital and this elderly white man with a hunting orange camouflage suit have been sitting for hours. I decided to make small talk with him because he seemed quite nervous and I have become a pro at this waiting game. We talked about his wife 4 1/2 hour surgery. I told him that my mom previous surgery was for 6 1/2 hours. In the middle of the conversation he said he didn’t know where his step son Quan went? I was thinking Quan? I don’t know any white guys name Quan, now that’s a first for me.
He told me his wife was black, and her son is black later in the discussion. I KNEW IT!!! I never met a white guy name Quan. It’s amazing how much you can learn about a person just by having having a conversation with them. Yes I pre-judged him by the his age, color of his skin and his dress attire. Oh my! I was discriminating. I was so embarrassed of myself. I later learned in this conversation that he was 65 years old and his wife is 42. I started thinking how did your old butt get a young wife? (He looked older than 65 years old I thought he was in his 70’s) Oops I did it again, dang it. I discriminated again. I crack myself up!
